Resources for Long COVID
What is Long COVID?
Are you one of the almost 1 billion people who contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus? At least 10% of the billion didn't recover within 6 months.
These people have what is referred to as long COVID or post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC).
Long COVID can present with dozens of disabling symptoms typical of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), including the following:
- Central nervous system symptoms like fatigue, headache, and problems thinking clearly and quickly;
- Autonomic nervous system symptoms like postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS);
- Low cellular energy causing severe fatigue and post-exertional malaise;
- Reactivation of viral infections;
- Disturbances to the gut microbiome causing irritable bowel symptoms and generalized inflammation;
- Cardiovascular and pulmonary symptoms including increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and decreased exercise capacity.
Long COVID, like ME, has been met with skepticism by physicians and researchers, causing those who suffer from it considerable frustration and anger.
The sheer number of people suffering, however, is pushing the research establishment to study the causes and possible treatments.
That research clearly shows that long COVID is real and serious.
