Resources for Chronic Pain
What is Chronic Pain?
- Any pain that lasts for 2 months.Â
- Pain of any kind, in any part of the body, and from any cause.
- Chronic pain affects around 20% of the population and causes significant disability and a decrease in quality of life.
- Despite being so common, current treatments are ineffective.
- Because chronic pain is an invisible disability, patients’ experiences are often doubted. They’re told to learn to live with their pain—not what anyone wants to hear. I know from 35 years of experience and science that chronic pain is very real.
- Chronic pain doesn’t respond to treatments that are effective for acute pain because chronic pain has a different biology. Chronic pain is generated by the brain, not the body.
- Luckily, there is hope. You can learn to rewire the brain and decrease chronic pain, often substantially.
