About the Presenters
Alison Bested, MD
Dr. Alison Bested is a medical doctor specializing in hematological pathology. Over 30 years ago, she found herself interested in complex chronic disease and has mentored many in the field, including me. She has studied widely and is certified in cognitive behavioral therapy and integrative medicine, as of 2017. After many years of practicing at the renowned Environmental Health Clinic at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Bested joined the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University, where she is an associate professor and the director of hyperbaric medicine.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Bested has been devoted to treating patients with complex chronic medical conditions, including myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome, post-COVID illness, veterans with mild post-traumatic brain injury, fibromyalgia and multiple chemical sensitivity or mast cell activation syndrome. Always pioneering new ways to help her patients, Dr. Bested's current research interest is the treatment of veterans with mild traumatic brain injury or post-concussion syndrome with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Dr. Bested coauthored two must-read books: Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and The Complete Fibromyalgia Health Diet Guide and Cookbook. These are foundational books for anyone with ME/CFS or FM wanting to learn how to improve their health.
